In collaboration with Clarisonic and the InfluenceHer Collective, I was excited to test out my Clarisonic Mia for treating acne. Breakouts are a challenge at any age. I’ve struggled with clear skin for at least half of my life. Between acne in my twenties and melasma in my thirties, I’ve experienced my fair share of skin care issues. As a freshman in college, I came home on winter break with an entire face full of cystic acne. I remember sitting in the dermatologist’s office with one of the worst breakouts in my life and running into someone I graduated high school with in the waiting room. Talk about mortifying! I literally wanted to crawl under the chair.
While I debated going on Accutane, I ultimately decided against it. The side effects — some of which were potentially serious — dissuaded me. I decided go with birth control, episodic rounds of doxycycline, and salicyclic acid products instead. While my outbreaks improved, it took my skin awhile to balance itself out.
While I no longer suffer from cystic acne, I do experience breakouts from makeup, sunscreen, and the gym. This is why I was so pumped to test out the Clarisonic Mia. Clarisonic is the #1 cleansing device recommended by US dermatologists. It’s 6X more effective than using your fingers to remove makeup. I was surprised to learn that Clarisonics don’t actually exfoliate the skin, but rather sonic cleanse. The bristles of the brush head move back and forth, oscillating to flex the skin and flushing water and cleanser into pores. They work with the skin’s natural elasticity to gently rock dirt, makeup, pollutants, and oil out of the pores.
How to use the Clarisonic Mia
- Wet your Clarisonic brush and skin with warm water
- Apply cleanser to brush head — I like the Pore & Blemish Gel Cleanser
- Push the button to start. Gently move the brush head in small circular motions, beginning on the forehead, then moving to the nose/chin area and the cheeks. Let the device gently glide over skin. You don’t want to press down.
- Once the cleansing is complete (the brush will turn off on its own), rinse your face & brush head with warm water
- Apply your favorite toner and lotion
That’s it! It’s so easy, and you can even use your Clarisonic in the shower, because it’s completely waterproof. I’ve been using the Acne Facial Cleansing Brush Head which is designed for sensitive, acne-prone skin.
