Happy Easter! It feels so nice to have my weekends, holidays, and overnights back. I haven’t mentioned this on the blog yet, but I changed jobs in the hospital last month. I’m now a surgical nurse practitioner, working with the surgical oncology, colorectal, vascular, and general surgical services. I’m so excited for this new chapter in my life! I’ve basically worked in the ER for the entirety of my career thus far, having started out as a student nurse extern and eventually being offered my first job as an RN upon graduation from college.
It’s difficult to branch out into other specialties, especially as a nurse practitioner, so I am beyond excited and grateful for the new opportunity! I’m loving it so far. There is a lot to learn about the surgical world in general, but I am up for the task! I’m the type of person who’s scared of change — hello, stubborn Taurus over here! 🙋🏼 — but I’m so glad I pushed myself to try new things. I work in a large teaching hospital with residents, so while I won’t have the opportunity to scrub into surgeries, I’m responsible for consults and managing the patient post-operatively. Right now, I’m on the surgical oncology/colorectal service, but will be oriented to the other services next month. Don’t worry, I haven’t lost my affection for the ER — I’m picking up extra shifts as a per diem! 2017 is starting out on an amazing note!
